A teacher arrives to work in a desolate area of northern Argentina and meets a young teenage boy brought up in the middle of nowhere, in almost near isolation, whom he tries to slowly open up to see the world. The boys loves the teacher’s books about the sea, ships and military. After the boy’s grandmother dies, the two travel to the city to learn more about the disappearance and death of the boy’s father. The teacher is assigned to another town but continues to write to the boy. After several years the teacher returns to the poor village to discover that the boy was one of the sailors who went down in the ship sunk by the British at the start of the Falkland Islands war.

Very powerful film.
