NHAWLT Teacher of the Year

TOY: Teacher of the Year Application Details:

The NH Association of World Language Teachers’ “Teacher of the Year” award is intended to elevate the status of our profession by creating opportunities for recognizing the most accomplished members of our profession. It is intended to create opportunities to increase the visibility of the importance of learning languages and cultures to the general public.  

  • Candidates must be a NHAWLT member to be eligible for the award.
  • Candidates must be full-time language educators who plan to continue teaching for the next 4 years.
  • A letter explaining why this World Language teacher should receive the NHAWLT honor of being Teacher of the Year. This letter may be written by the candidate or by a colleague.
  • After the October 1 deadline, the President of NHAWLT contacts the candidates to set up a phone interview, asking each candidate the same questions.
  • The NHAWLT Board reviews all letters and all interviews to select the best candidate to become the New Hampshire World Language Teacher of the Year.
  • All candidates are informed by October 31 if they are the winner or not.
  • The Teacher of the Year is announced at the Conference luncheon and introduced to the assembly of NHAWLT teachers.
  • The NH TOY is invited to attend the NH Edies Award event where they will receive the state award the beginning of June.

The NH TOY may decide to stop at the state level or continue to compete in the NECTFL regional contest leading to the ACTFL National TOY contest. The candidate should review the requirements for NECTFL and ACTFL for “Teacher of the Year” at nectfl.org and actfl.org. NECTFL uses ACTFL’s requirements for their northeast regional contest.
